Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Parliament Opens - Strike Crisis. DESCRIPTION: MP’s arriving at the House of Commons for the new session, included some new members. The railway strike was one of the urgent problems facing the Government. The TUC had worked hard to find a solution and conferences between the TUC and NUR and the Locomen’s Union took place. Provincial police were a great help to the Metropolitan Police in their efforts to keep vital road traffic on the move. Horse Guards Parade was used as a car park on the day of Her Majesty’s official birthday, when the Trooping would have been held. Due to the strike also, the State Opening of Parliament was without its traditional pageantry and splendour. SHOTLIST: GV of traffic jam. GV of Houses of Parliament.
