America in the Fifties: Selling the American Way

Synopsis
Looks at how television was used in the 1950s to sell consumer dreams and political deception in the USA. Rosser Reeves devised advertisements for cigarettes, headache remedies and presidents; Richard Nixon applies slick new advertising techniques to save his political career; and the CIA and other powers-that-be in Washington quickly learn how to manipulate the medium to cover up America’s underhand activities in Guatemala and Vietnam.
