- Summary
- COI Synopis - In this programme, we look at what the sea can offer us in terms of energy, food and minerals. It also examines its awesome power and offers some solutions for safety at sea. How do you evacuate passengers from a stricken ship to the safety of life-rafts in less than thirty minutes? The answer is a chute which comes in a pre-packed cannister. Pulling a lanyard, simultaneously releases it, and fills the slide and platform on which it floats, with high-pressure nitrogen. The life-rafts, which are attached to the platform, are released in similar fashion, blossoming out of their cannisters to complete the system which can be ready for use in six minutes.
