MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Rome Hails the Queen. DESCRIPTION: At the station, the warmest of greetings were exchanged between the Royal guests and President and Donna Carla Gronchi. Then came the people’s welcome on the drive through Rome. At a civic reception at the Capitol, the Mayor presented a golden replica of the statue of the goddess Roma, and in her speech the Queen referred to dates that schoolboys remember: 55 BC (the Roman invasion of Britain) was one of them. Attendance at the International Horse Show was another highlight. Among top-flight riders competing for the Grand Prix of Rome was Brigadier Blacker of Britain, who came third on Workboy.
