Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: A Church Reborn. DESCRIPTION: St Clement Danes, a Wren masterpiece bombed in London raids in 1941, now lives again. Knocking three times with his pastoral staff on the West door, the Bishop of London (Dr Montgomery Campbell) entered for the service. The Duchess of Kent with Princess Alexandra, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother attended the service. Her Majesty the Queen, arriving with Prince Philip, was received by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Fisher. The Bishop re-consecrated St Clement Danes and dedicated the ornaments and gifts. He then made a speech. After the sermon by the Archbishop, followed by a favourite hymn, the historic service was ended. The bells of St Clement’s rang out their old, familiar tune again.
