Career

According to Terry Gallacher [qv], Ken Taylor was one of the Fleet Street still photographers recruited by Movietone to fill the gap left by the staff who went to ITN in 1955. Another such recruit was Len Waldorf [qv] of the London Evening Standard. Taylor’s first credit was for ‘LUCY RETAINS TITLE’ in British Movietone News No.1413 of July 1956. In August 1956 Taylor was in Cyprus with John Davies [qv] to film ‘RED DEVILS’ NEW H.Q.' for No.1419A, and in January 1961 he and Norman Fisher [qv] were assigned to cover Queen Elizabeth’s first visit to India. Their reports began with ‘THE ROYAL VISIT TO INDIA’ in No.1651A, and ran until ‘NEPAL WELCOMES QUEEN’ in No.1657 of March 1961. Taylor’s last credit is for ‘TWICKENHAM - ENGLAND TROUNCE IRELAND’ in No.1706A of February 1962. However, the report from Hollywood of ‘MEG AND TONY HAVING A BALL’ in No.1902 of November 1965 is credited as ‘Taylor neg[ative],' and this may refer to Ken Taylor. According to Terry Gallacher, Taylor himself left Movietone for ITN ‘in the late sixties.'
