Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Monty in Caen. DESCRIPTION: Not long after the capture of Caen General Montgomery paid a visit. Monty met many of the troops involved in capturing the town and handed out books and cigarettes. SHOTLIST: Cut story - AFU - General Dempsey & Montgomery stand at side of road talking, as transport moves along road in rear. Monty & Dempsey in open car drive into Caen, British troops gather round car, Monty hands them cigarettes. Caen Cathedral & pan up. Monty mingles with French civilians. Cromwell tanks with 75mm guns mounted on same, various shots of them in fields of France, & CUs of same. Various shots of Churchill tanks, also occasional Sherman. Shots of Churchill tanks in field with POW on knees in fore. 2 shots of tank firing. Quick mortar fire, also firing Vickers machine gun from trench. Various shots of 155mm guns firing. Over part of this reel was a recording of Monty congratulating his men, after months of fighting.
