Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Mulberry Harbours. DESCRIPTION: The problem of landing reinforcements and supplies for the Second Front was solved by huge pre-fabricated harbours. The caissons which made up the harbours began to be moved into position on D-Day and by D-Day plus twelve more than half were in place. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV pier-heads off coast. Various shots of convoy off English coast, destroyers, component parts of harbours, some fly barrage balloons. GV of convoy under way, caissons, blockships etc. Obsolete merchant ship sunk off Normandy coast. Aerial shot of air cover. Aerial shot of caissons off Normandy, all have AA guns mounted same. Caissons in place, followed by diagram. CU roadway, & GV of roadway followed by diagram. Aerial shot of pier-head attached at end of roadway, aerial shot of roadway, followed by another diagram. AFU - Jeeps off ships onto ramps, & onto roadway, from top deck & lower deck of landing craft. Tanks along roadway, trucking shot along roadway. Damaged (badly) harbour, various shots of same, seas washing over same. AFU - Lorries off roadway, elevated shot of complete harbour panning from coast out to sea.
