A service funded, until July 2011, by the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) for accessing Internet resources for learning and teaching communities in the UK. Organised into 19 gateways covering Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health and Life Sciences. Previously known as the Resource Discovery Network. NB Intute closed in July 2011 and the site has now been archived. No further resources are being added and no changes are being made to existing content, so the resource will increasingly become less useful and reliable.

The Radio 4 site provides supporting information to the wide range of programmes produced by the station, but for researchers its most valuable feature is likely to be ‘Listen Again’ , which makes available a selection of documentary and news programmes from the past week (for contractual reasons it is not possible to do this for comedy and drama), including Analysis, From our Own Correspondent, Home Truths, PM, Today and The World at One. Radio 4 Choice is a weekly documentary podcast.

Over 2,000 streamable news images 1896-2000 (from French Pathe and ITN Archive) available on subscription at low and high bandwidths (using Windows Media Player). It is possible to search by names, keywords and dates (though there are only three clips available for the first fifteen years). Most images suffer from artifacting flaws throughout, a surprising number have French soundtracks, and little has been done to catalogue the material in any useful sense, but the range of material (almost half are from the 1990s) and its ease of use impresses. It costs £4 per year, and there is a free preview section. It also links to Frost.TV.
