Summary
Rhodesian Spotlight synopsis: The opening of the new Kasembereka Tea Factory brings the total number of Nyasaland’s Tea Factories to 29.
Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - Lady Colby and Mr Footman arrive to open the Kasembereka Tea Factory at Cholo in Nyasaland. The plant was put in motion by the Chief Secretary deputising for the Governor who was indisposed. Nyasaland is far and away the biggest tea producer in Africa. Tea is picked on 25 thousand acres with amazing dexterity. After picking the green leaf is weighed on the Estate. The climate of the Milanje and Cholo districts make them ideal for tea growing.
The new Kasembereka is Nyasaland’s 29th tea factory, and the leaf going in now will actually christen the machines. But before doing so it is weighed again under supervision to keep the records straight. The next step is spreading the green leaf on the withering racks where it undergoes its preliminary drying.
The Kasembereka factory is equipped with the most up-to-date plant, and will be adding considerably to Nyasaland’s tea production, which is already over 15 million pounds in weight annually. Perhaps from that you might care to work out the actual number of "cuppas", but it all adds up to the fact that to Nyasaland the opening of Kasembereka is a matter of first rate importance.
