Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Power Boat Race - News in Colour. DESCRIPTION: MOVIETONE presents the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Power Boat Race - the most gruelling off-shore race in the World. Out of 45 starters, only 21 pass the finishing line. The course is 221 nautical miles long and the sea is rough, but the boats roar and literally fly over it at speeds up to eighty miles an hourThe casualties include ex-World Champion Vincenzo Balestrieri’s Black Tornado and last year’s winner Carlo Bonomi in Dry Martini, literally in sight of the finishing lineThe thirty-seven foot aluminium UNOWOT designed by Don Shead at the wheel, with Colonel Ronnie Hoare navigator and property man Harry Hyams crewman, is known as a very fast boat, and lives up to her reputation. She wins three minutes ahead of the field. Don Shead said winning was an unbelievable thrill which exactly describes MOVIETONE’s film of the event. SHOTLIST: SV doors opening to reveal power boat.
