Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Macmillan in Karachi. DESCRIPTION: At a press conference in Karachi, the day after his arrival in Pakistan, Mr Harold Macmillan gave his impressions of the first items on his busy programme. SHOTLIST: Various shots of Macmillan at a press conference. CU of Macmillan as he makes speech (speech over pictures). Speech - I have had an honour today, for instance to have been taken around the harbour by your Admiral, been entertained by the Commander In Chief on board the cruiser, seen a great number of naval officers who have such close connection with the British Navy, whom I’m happy to say still maintain that close connection in various ways and one’s made to feel, not a stranger, not even a guest but a member of the family. I go tomorrow to see the airforce and I’m fortunate to have a visit to the army on the following day, that’s as far as the services are concerned. I have seen some today, of the great industrial progress that you have made and at the very point although, I knew it already I have been able to see it with my own eyes. What one could read about or get the messages about before the consulting of the problem that generates, that confronts you and something in the way in which you are setting the solution. Pictures - Shots of the harbour. Shot of the Admiral. Shot of Macmillan being greeted by the Commander in Chief on the cruiser. Shots of Macmillan greeting naval officers. LS of cruiser. MCU of British flag flying. Panning shot of the cruiser. MCU of Macmillan. Shot of planes all lined up. MCU of tail of a plane. Macmillan inspects Airforce. Planes flying in formation. Shot of Macmillan watching the planes. Shots of Macmillan looking at material in a factory. Various shots of Macmillan walking around the fabric factory.
