MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Highway Load. DESCRIPTION: How it was a little over half a century ago. The motor car was a novelty and every driver, King of the Open Road. Nowadays the man in the street is the King of the Road. But the Open Road is virtually no more. Other countries have tackled their traffic problem. Perhaps we can learn something from them. America has many more cars, but they’ve got a lot more room to play around in. However, the recent decision to spend 240 million pounds on road improvements is a bit more encouraging. SHOTLIST: Old car and couple along road. Henderson traffic - 1900. Car manufacture. Bumper to bumper traffic on roads. Aerials of coastal traffic. America - excellent aerials of the famous ring road. Bumper to bumper traffic England. CU various wheels. Drivers getting impatient. Woman in back seat moaning at husband. Lorry loaded with new cars. Building new roads. Drills etc. Modern road with traffic. Aerials traffic.
