Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: "Fifth & Eighth" Cross Volturno. DESCRIPTION: The Fifth Army have crossed the River Volturno beyond Naples and continue to move northwards. It was not long before German prisoners were being brought in, as the push for Rome was maintained. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS Shot of hilly Italian countryside. LS of explosion caused by our guns. Transport & troops along roadway into camera. Few shots of destroyed bridges, demolition work of Jerry. British & American troops being ferried across river. British AA protecting advance & explosions. British troops wait on bank. Smoke screen being laid. Bulldozers clearing road for transport. Various shots of pontoon bridge being built, crane swings round with section of bridge, meanwhile troops are ferried across & German POWs ferried back, into camera shot. Bridge GS of Huskie Pontoon Bridge. Various of transport & British troops crossing bridge, infantry crossing, Sherman tank crossing bridge. 5.5 guns being towed after being stuck in the mud, owing to heavy rains, various shots. Sherman tanks advancing over boggy fields, GS of Shermans firing their guns.
