Ufa: Myth and Reality
- Synopsis
- A history of the Universum Film AG (UFa), an influential film production company in Germany. Part 1 covers the period from its founding in 1917 to 1932 and includes excerpts from films including BOMBEN AUF MONTE CARLO, METROPOLIS and DER BLAUE ENGEL. Part 2 deals with the 1933 to 1945 when the Nazis made use of the arts for their own ends. Productions from this time included entertainment films such as VIKTOR UND VIKTORIA and LA HABANERA, propaganda films, and ‘hold-out’ films, which were intended to reinforce people’s desire for war. Part 3 describes the period after 1945 when the Defa as a state-owned concern took over the studios and staff.
