Summary
Pathe synopsis: A top fashion designer found inspiration in a London street market. He sketched all the fruit the barrow boys had on display - and returned to his Mayfair salon to assemble the fruitiest clothes ever contrived since Eve wore fig leaves.

Commentary: Charles William Davies - fashion designer, with fruit on his mind ... It’s that pineapple he’s particularly interested in ... It’s that pineapple which has given him the idea of designing - a pineapple dress. The result - a pineapple dress. But why stop there? Why not design a whole collection of fruit fashions to make any woman’s mouth water. So - back to the barrow boy. From a Cockney market - to his Mayfair salon, hurrying to assemble the fruitiest clothes ever contrived since Eve wore fig leaves. There’s an orchard of material here. Picking it is the only problem ... In this sweet course, it’s not only the dressing that Mr Davies has in mind. He has hats too - garnished with fruit salad ... They can ring out the bells of St Clements, Shoreditch, Stepney, Old Bailey - the lot - for his oranges - and lemons. They go to your head. "Hallo me old fruit" said the barrow boy. So in he came - barrow and all. Compare his mushroom with the mushroom hat ... Compare his cap with the feminine version. And if any wife complains she wants a new hat - buy her a cauliflower. And if the cauliflower doesn’t appeal to her - you surely can’t slip up on this banana skin. The hurry is over. The dresses are ready. This is a peach of a dress. Or it would be if it wasn’t a strawberry. It’s even got a strawberry brooch designed by Corocraft. Here’s a fruit at its sweetest. Sweet - but juicedly expensive. Rather like the succulent dishes served at this expensive restaurant.
