Gresham College, named after Sir Thomas Gresham, has been giving free lectures for some 400 years. Over 2,000 audio and/or video lectures given since 2001 are available on the site for free, on-demand streaming or download approximately two weeks after they have been given. The main subject areas are Art & Literature, Medical Science, Business, History, Law, Mathematics, Music, Politics, Religion, Science, and Unusual, which includes Media, Education, Climate Change and others. Results can also be filtered by subcategories. For example, there is a section on Film under the Arts & Literature category, and a section on Film Music under the Music category. The lectures last, on average, between 25 minutes and a little under an hour. They all have a good number of chapters and a fair amount of information is given on the site as well as transcripts and links to related materials.
The content can also be browsed via the tab Watch which contains four groupings: All Past Lectures, Series, Shorts and Short Series.

A number of ‘alternative’ animations commenting on American politics and news stories can be found on this site, courtesy of American brothers Gregg and Evan Spririndellis, including the popular This Land which satirised both Kerry and Bush during the 2004 US Presidential elections. The site now produces only annual reviews of such stories and concentrates on selling ecards and personalised animations.

The programmes are available live in German, French and English and the archive section allows access in several more languages. An effective back-up service is also available in the web archive, which allows emergency meetings and press conferences to be retransmitted. Additional information includes detailed schedules of political broadcasts and re-transmissions. This content is available for on-demand viewing (Real and Flash) and most of it also for download in a variety of bandwidths. Links to other websites, and information on use and access are also provided in a comprehensive and easy to understand manner. A huge advantage of this website is that material may be used free of charge and free of rights for educational purposes.

The WGBH Media Archives and Preservation Center presents bulletins from WGBH’s in-depth nightly news program, >The Ten O’Clock News. The material covers the years from 1974 to 1991 and can be searched by keyword, name, location and chronologically and are between 30 and 200 seconds in length and require QuickTime. From a design perspective, the site is not particularly attractive and somewhat spartan, but the materials held are often fascinating, with emphasis on serious political issues such as desegregation in schools, AIDS and affordable housing.
