Summary
COI synopsis: Overcrowded cities - urban sprawl - the twentieth century dilemma. Britain shares this dilemma with every other advanced nation where industrial growth erodes green countryside. London Line takes a look at one country’s special problems, some of the solutions, and some of the plans for future urban expansion in a special report on... New towns in Britain. Michael Smee in the London Line studio discusses the philosophy of planning new communities and preserving Britain’s green belt areas with government new town advisor Wyndham Thomas. On location Ian Morrison takes a closer look at two of the flourishing complete new towns and their residents at Cumbernauld in Scotland, and Harlow in the South of England. In the studio is Theo Crosby, distinguished designer who talks about new towns to meet the needs of the future.
