Career

Mike Smee initially presented the ‘Old Commonwealth’ version of London Line (1964-1979), a magazine programme produced by the Central Office of Information [qv] for the Commonwealth Relations Office and Foreign Office [qv]. These editions were shown in countries which were more established members of the Commonwealth, such as Canada and Australia. He appeared in one of the earlier issues, ‘STAMP DESIGN’, London Line No.53 released in 1965.

When the new colour edition of London Line was launched the following year he presented it on a regular basis until it finished in 1969, generally ending each programme with the words ‘This is Michael Smee, your man in London’. During this period he also interviewed Caroline Loizos for an edition of The Enthusiasts (1967) and contributed to The Pacemakers (1969-1971) both as a commentator and interviewer. He also worked as a presenter on the first edition of the COI science magazine series Living Tomorrow (1969-1983) and Tomorrow Today (1969-1974), ‘HOLIDAY SKIMMER’, released in 1969.
