Career
Mark Lawton was one of the directors of London Line (1964-1978), a magazine programme produced by the Central Office of Information [qv] for the Commonwealth Relations Office [qv] and Foreign Office [qv]. It was produced in two main editions, ‘Old Commonwealth’ for established countries of the Commonwealth such as Australia and Canada and ‘New Commonwealth’ primarily for countries in Africa and the Caribbean that had recently joined. One of his earliest credits is for the ‘New Commonwealth’ version of ‘PLASTIC MACS’, London Line No.113, released in 1966. He went on to regularly direct issues from London Line (Colour series 2) such as ‘BRITISH RADAR SYSTEM’, Issue No.56, released in 1968. He was also a regular director on the COI science magazine series Living Tomorrow (1969-1983) and Tomorrow Today (1969-1974). He directed the first edition of both series ‘HOLIDAY SKIMMER’ Living Tomorrow and Tomorrow Today No.1, released in 1969.
