- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: News in Colour Ascot - ‘Gold Cup’. DESCRIPTION: A year of firsts at Royal Ascot. The first time the Gold Cup’s been run on Saturday (because of a break for the General Election); the first trouser suits in the Royal Enclosure, and this year the first woman to train the winner of the big race. Despite throwing his jockey and bolting in the paddock, Precipice Wood wins the Gold Cup for trainer Mrs Lomax. The Queen and other members of the Royal Family drive down the course in their carriages and we also spotlight the fashions of the fashionable in this colourful day at the races. Queen Mother & Queen watch pan No 10 (Clairon), pan two jockeys entering. Pan from No 8 Ginger Boy up to No 9 Dutch Bells, about to mount. CU J Lindley mounts No 6 & horse rears & throws jockey. 2 GVs pan horse gallops towards second enclosure, other horses leave paddock. CU another jockey mounts. SV pan man & woman. 5 SVs pan man & woman. Pan Indian with turban. Girl with long maxi dress, pan horses race down straight for for first time. Group of girls in trouser suits. GV horses round bend & into straight. 2 CUs pan legs of three girls in trouser suit, girl looks round - trilby type hat. GV pan horses down straight (6) Precipice Wood past post, followed by others. SV winner into enclosure & jockey dismounts.
