Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Pretty Villages (Colour Story). DESCRIPTION: Having to choose Britain’s prettiest village is something of a tall order, but that was the idea of a recent competition sponsored by the British Travel and Holidays Association. Not surprisingly, Kersey in Suffolk was highly placed. Bourton-on-the-Water, the obvious choice of those living in Gloucestershire, also came close to winning the title. Downham near Clitheroe, came fifth. Luss, on the West shore of Loch Lomond in Dumbartonshire, is well known to Glaswegians as an ideal place to visit. And here is Castle Coombe in Wiltshire - declared the prettiest of the lot. Out of 300 nominations, it’s the choice of Britain. SHOTLIST: A contest to find Britain’s prettiest village. Various scenic shots of the five villages voted the prettiest. Voted first was Castle Coombe in Wiltshire. Kersey in Suffolk and Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire were also highly placed with Downham near Clitheroe and Luss, Loch Lomond following.
