- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Labour Conference. DESCRIPTION: Scarborough was the meeting place, and Labour delegates at this vital conference included Mr Gaitskell, elder Statesman James Griffiths, Anthony Greenwood, Tom Driberg, Mrs Braddock, Barbara Castle, George Brown, the Labour defence spokesman, Frank Cousins, leader of the TGWU, Bill Carron of the AEU, Richard Crossman and Harold Wilson. All were there, and due to contest the late Aneurin Bevan’s seat in the House - Michael Foot. Surprises and shocks were soon being felt, such as the resignation from the Executive of Mr Wedgwood Benn. Outside the Pavilion, nuclear disarmament marchers paraded their slogans.
