- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Royal Diary. DESCRIPTION: Once again, Windsor has witnessed all the pageantry of the Garter ceremony. With heralds and pursuivants leading the way, members of the Royal Family walked in the procession: the Queen Mother, the Queen with Prince Philip. The Earl of Radnor, Lord Digby, Field Marshal Sir William Slim and the Duke of Northumberland, had already been invested with the Insignia of Knights Companions of the Most Noble Order. The Service of Installation was being held in St George’s Chapel. Among the many Knights of the Garter present was Field Marshal Lord Montgomery. And Black Rod Lieutenant General Sir Brian Horrocks. Sir William Slim, with a Peerage in the Birthday list, has been doubly honoured. . A few days before, the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery made a very impressive appearance, in full dress uniform, at Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty carried out her inspection. Major Lithgow, on behalf of the King’s Troop presented a brooch to the Queen to commemorate the birth of Prince Andrew.
