Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Something About a Soldier. DESCRIPTION: The Secretary for War, Mr Soames, introduced the Army’s New Look. The walking out uniform, for instance, will have brass buttons that don’t need polishing. There are also proposed styles for the Women’s Royal Army Corps and Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing Corps. Some 3,000 of these Army uniforms will be issued for a trial period, before the final choice is made. The troops in Jordan have been preparing to leave. (It was over four months ago that King Hussein requested their help, following the assassination of King Feisal of Iraq. Since that troubled time, the situation has evened up.) Most of their stores would be going by sea, while the men themselves were to begin their journey with an airlift to Cyprus. SHOTLIST: MS army types. MS same & Mr Soames.
