Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Monty Looks Back. DESCRIPTION: Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery, of Alamein, went back to Luneburg, where he took the German surrender in World War Two. There is a memorial stone there now, at Victory Hill, recording the historic event. And Monty gave the monument a close and critical inspection. He must have recalled that scene of thirteen years ago: The Union Flag, and the Nazis waiting. He leaves his caravan headquarters to meet them, and tell them, that the terms are unconditional. After a brief delay, the surrender is taken in a tent. Such was the scene the monument must have brought to life again for Field Marshal Montgomery: the 4th of May, 1945.
