- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Budget. DESCRIPTION: Mr Peter Thorneycroft, the new Chancellor of the Exchequer, about to introduce his first budget, was almost besieged at Number Eleven. Points from the Budget are: Purchase Tax halved on a number of household goods, the extra shilling put on petrol after Suez to be removed, an additional pound on Television licenses.
