Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Lewisham By-Election. DESCRIPTION: It was expected that the North Lewisham by-election would be a close thing. The Conservative candidate was Mr Farmer. And, in a three cornered battle, his chief opponent was Mr MacDermot, fighting for the cause of Labour. And there was Miss Greene, Independent Loyalist. The counting of the votes showed that Labour polled at full strength, while Tory votes were down by over 4,000. The result was declared by Alderman Hawkins. SHOTLIST: GV of Lewisham.
