Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: United Nations Consider Czech Coup. DESCRIPTION: The Security Council of the United Nations has met to discuss the coup in Czechoslovakia. SHOTLIST: CUT STORY: KS CU emblem of UN. Exterior GV of building of United Nations. MS Interior Security Council (horseshoe) seated. MS Russian delegates seated, include Gromyko. MS Security Council pan to Dr Papanek walking in and round to his place next to Gromyko. SV MS Papanek seated next to Gromyko. SCU Papanek speaking In my letter of March 10th 1948, addressed to the Security Council to investigate the Communist coup in Czechoslovakia, I, M Papanak, reject any suggestion that President Benes is a free man. I reject any possibility that he approved the new regime or that he sanctions its actions without having the greatest pressure put upon him. For myself I cannot accept the official explanation (speaking of Jan Masaryk’s death) of his death as suicide. I know that he planned to leave Czechoslovakia and begin work for a new Czechoslovakia, to begin again. Cut-in cameramen shooting. Cut-in Security Council listening.
