MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Coal Holds Up Motor Works. DESCRIPTION: A shortage of coal has meant the temporary closure of the Austin Motor Works in Birmingham. SHOTLIST: KS Pan roof of plant. GV snow covered works, workmen shovelling coal from small heap. Indicator dropping, MS & CU. SCU workman turning key on wall. Inside Austin’s cars on production line, workmen and women polishing and painting cars, putting finishing touches. Car coming off production line. Workmen rushing out of plant at lunch hour. Various interior shots of idle plant, shows cars and tools on production line, Mr Lord (Chairman and Managing Director) walks along looking at same. Shots of notice on wall referring to suspension of work owing to coal shortage. GV men and women leaving factory. MS of interview with Works Joint Production Committee. Terry Cotter asks them question regarding the present crisis, how it affects them, etc., they are Mr Mason, Mr Bird, Mr Dewsbury and Mr ?. Interior shot MS & CU of Mr Albert Blackburn MP (Labour) being interviewed, shots of him criticising the Government plan for coal etc., he believes in enterprise, enterprise, enterprise, public or private.
