MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Bristol Freedom for the Premier. DESCRIPTION: Mr Churchill received the Freedom of Bristol amid joyous scenes. Later as chancellor of the University he handed honorary degrees to Mr Bevin and Mr Alexander. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. GV of crowded & beflagged street. Churchill rides on State Coach with Lord Mayor, Duke of Beaufort through crowded & cheering people, various shots. At Council House. Churchill about to alight from coach. Inside. Churchill walks to place. Lord Mayor hands Churchill casket. Churchill reads scroll taken from inside casket. Churchill addresses audience. Important passages in his speech were "this is not time for celebrations", "I led a United Government, with the people united behind us". He also mentions the Far East war. Leaves Council House, drives to University. Shot of Churchill, Bevin & Mr Alexander in University robes coming onto steps outside. SCU of the three & CU of them individually.
