- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Red Army Celebrations. DESCRIPTION: Manchester - Red Army Day was celebrated all over the country, in Manchester Major Leberdev, Red Army, was at the saluting base with Colonel Oliver Stanley, Sir Edward Ellington and the Lord Mayor. Bristol - In Bristol the scars of Nazi bombing could be seen as a parade from all the services marched through the city. Albert Hall - London’s tribute came from the Albert Hall where a pageant took place. The pageant was followed by a speech from the Foreign Secretary, Mr Eden. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Manchester: Marines and Sailors march into camera, along street. On the pavement are Major Leberdev (Red Army); Colonel Oliver Stanley; Sir Edward Ellington and Colonel Sepp, US Liaison Officer. Colonel Moore and JS Hill (Lord Mayor). CU of the above. Soldiers and sailors march past. Bristol: Sailors march along street with fixed bayonets, past ruins. Pan of same. Good shots of bomb damage. Crowd shots. AV Alexander and HA Wall (Lord Mayor) on stand taking salute. ATS followed by troops turn corner into camera. Crowds line route. Albert Hall, London: Elevated shots of soldiers, sailors and RAF personnel marching on to stand. Back-cloth being painting of Stalingrad. SV as RAF Personnel step off to tune of ??. Various angle shots of Forces taking up positions each side of state. Ralph Richardson & Dame Sybil Thorndike present. A Eden addresses people. CU same. Audience at attention while Last Post [sic]* is sounded. Raising of large Russian flag in front of back-cloth of Stalingrad to playing of ‘Internationale’. Troops behind Eden present arms. * Not Last Post but Solemn Fanfare written for the occasion by A Bax. Other forces in procession at Bristol were Home Guard, ARP, WRNS, WAAFS and GTC.
