MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Defiants in the Making. DESCRIPTION: The manufacture of the famous night-fighter the Defiant is continuing apace. Following recent call-ups, more and more girls are entering the aircraft factories. The first time ‘Defiants’ went into action they shot down some thirty-seven fighters and bombers without loss. SHOTLIST: The four gun turret made by Boulton Paul is fully set out in this story. 1. Testing ammunition. 2. Turret test without Cupola. 3. Gun fitting. 4. Turret test with Cupola. 5. Inside turret, installation of turret, closing of turret. 6. Rudder and Elevators being put on, Tailplane and Fin being put on. 7. Tailplane in Jigs, 3 shots. 8. Covering & Doping Rudders, Armoury cleaning and testing before fitted to Turret. Machine shop. 9. Close up Machine Shop. 10. Rigging shop. 11. Rigging shop (Crane shot) and putting on under cowling, propeller. 12. Undercarriage test. 13. Close-up Machine Shop (Girl on lathe). 14. Machines on tarmac. Flying shots. 1. Testing turret in air. 2. Rolling (taken twice). 3. Upside down. 4. Peeling off. 5. Rear attack. 6. Low flying for speed of machine. 7. Showing ground and tail cut-in for take off. 8. Defiant taking off. 9. Dive and turn in air and loop. 10. Firing guns in turret before putting on machine. 11. New Defiant leaving hangar.
