Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Russia. the German Retreat. DESCRIPTION: Leningrad in the north of the Soviet has withstood a long siege by the army of von Leeb. The munitions factories worked like Trojans to keep up the supply of weapons. The Soviet Baltic Fleet has been constantly in action against the Fascist invaders. Two squadrons of RAF ‘Hurricanes’ did great work before returning to Britain, helping to save Murmansk. SHOTLIST: Guns fire and tanks move forward over the frozen ground. German corpses lie frozen and there is an abundance of motor-vehicles of all kinds. From one wrecked tank a uniform of a Norwegian quisling is taken and by the roadside German helmets mark the graves of fallen Nazis. Thinly clad prisoners come in and stamp their feet to keep warm. The whole story ends with a battle sequence which will probably come in very useful for a similar story. Russia - A Polish Army - CARD 42007 The Poles who are fighting side by side with Russia against the Germans march past. Various general views and close-ups. The men march over a bridge. Russia RAF Wing - CARD 42008 Shots of the Hurricanes and their pilots. Close ups of two pilots who have been decorated. These are Squadron Leader Anthony Rook and Sergeant Howe. Various shots of the plane taking off from their snowy aerodrome. Russia - On The Production Front - CARD 42009 In clothing factories, clothes are cut out in large quantities and sweets are made for the troops.
