Visually impressive site with a wide range of information about the Anthropocene - a term coined for Earth’s most recent geologic time period as being human-influenced, or anthropogenic, based on ‘overwhelming global evidence that atmospheric, geologic, hydrologic, biospheric and other earth system processes which are now altered by humans’.

The site features an interactive map and a range of graphically inventive summaries and depictions of the main points around environmental change, such as Tipping Elements, Viable Future and Global Goals. There are a number of short films on the subject, one which provides an overview, the others covering changes to the global water cycle, urbanisation and climate change.

Extremely popular daily science show, streamed via YouTube and presented by Hank Green and Michael Aranda. Each day has a different format news (eg. Friday is Science News Day, Monday features a short video about our ‘Weird World’, whereas Wednesday’s video features longer, more in-depth investigations). The format is energetic, upbeat and engaging and the items generally well-researched, although one video on Genetically Modified Organisms caused some controversy and was taken down from the site after being criticised, as biased and inaccurate by science blogger Myles Power. SciShow made a new video Why Are GMOs Bad? in which they acknowledge the flaws in the previous film and present a more balanced case.

Also known as Sci Fri, this popular American science podcast and radio programme has covered all aspects of science since 1991. One of the first US radio science talk shows, the programme has over the years featured such names as Carl Sagan, Jane Goodall, Sylvia Earle and Oliver Sacks and has a reputation for groundbreaking and original science reporting. According to the site, the show’s founder and executive producer Ira Flatow was the first person to use the word ‘podcast’ on the airwaves. Archives go back as far as 2004 but there is also a substantial amount of video content. A section of the attractively laid out website features a range of educational resources, mainly aimed at primary and secondary school level.
