Online selection of interviews and discussions with film directors, actors, critics and scholars taken from the archives of the Austrian Film Museum. The museum began filming its events in 1975 and among the earliest recordings is an interview with Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Other interviewees include Anna Karina, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Claire Denis, Claude Lanzmann, Alexander Kluge and Michael Haneke. All clips are presented in the language(s) as spoken originally, without subtitles.

This public site presents a selection of films, stills, correspondence and other production documents from the archive of the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (German Film and Television Academy Berlin). The site lists filmographic details on over 2000 titles, as well as about 1000 photographs and 400 documents. Extracts from around 70 films are freely available to view online, along with contextual information written by film scholars and experts. Essays and articles on specific themes provide an insight into the history of the school and, in turn, throw light on the social history of the time, such as this piece on Feminismn at the dffb 1966-85. German language only.

On-demand streaming platform for educational institutions featuring over 26,000 films from leading producers including PBS, BBC, the Criterion Collection, First Run Features, Media Education Foundation, but also many other smaller, niche producers. The site offers both a platform from which to stream films as well as providing a video hosting service. A full range of academic subjects is covered and many of the films, programmes and clips are not otherwise available on DVD. The site also features detailed analytics so that librarians can more easily assess how the site is being used by students. Subscription is based on paying only for the films which students and institutions actually watch.

The DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is an archive and research centre devoted to a broad spectrum of filmmaking from, and related to, former East Germany and the GDR. It houses an extensive collection of 35mm and 16mm prints, DVDs, books, periodicals and articles. The Library supports an international network of researchers with a range of regular programming — such as biennial Summer Film Institutes and Filmmaker’s Tours, and workshops and panel discussions at major conferences in the US and Europe that helps shape national and international research on [East] German cinema during the global Cold War and on related films from Germany and elsewhere. The DVDs offered for sale are listed in the Store.

This online collection documents the history of Vienna in film, from the 1890s to the 1970s. The resource features a wide range of digitised content including amateur film, sponsored film, newsreels, home movies, fiction film and documentaries. The films are accompanied by synopses, credits and filmographic information. A detailed ‘Comments’ section is broken down according to ‘Stylistic Comments’ (ie. notes about composition, direction etc.) and ‘Historic Comments’ which highlight noteworthy period elements captured on the film, such as fashions, traffic, architecture etc. as well as references to further reading and other relevant contextual information.
