Synopsis

Divided into 8 15-minute episodes, this series provides a tool-kit of techniques and practical communication skills for survival in the workplace. Each programme takes an individual facing a communication problem and teams them up with their own mentor. This mentor analyses their strengths and weaknesses; gives them challenges and strategies to work with, as well as tips for avoiding the pitfalls. Each programme is accompanied by training notes including tutor points, role-plays and self-study exercises. Presented by Matt Allwright.

Sophie is an animal carer working in Wood Green Animal Shelter in Cambridgeshire looking after dogs that need to find new homes. She often has to convince people who have a certain breed in mind to choose a more suitable one for their situation. She also has problems persuading her colleagues to help her out when she is busy, swapping shifts or asking for holiday. Sophie gets some advice to help her overcome these issues.

Arindum is Sales and Marketing Manager at Cafe Spice Namaste, an Indian restaurant. His job includes giving feedback (including customer complaints) to the waiting staff, the chef and the kitchen team.
