Synopsis
This issue of the Vichy newsreel released in May 1944 shows: 1) Ruins of historical and religious monuments and ordinary housing throughout France ‘devastated by those who call themselves our liberators’; 2) Pétain visits Nancy, Épinal and Dijon and receives a rapturous welcome. This is put forward as proof that the French consider him the legal head of the French Government and the sole head of France; 3) Von Runstedt, Rommel, Sperrie and Krancke confer inside the Prince of Wales hotel. Armoured warfare in the Crimea. At the end faces of Aryan prisoners are contrasted with smiling Teutonic warriors ‘determined to fight to the death against Bolshevism’.
