People of Clay: The Twa of Rwanda
- Synopsis
- Documents the difficult and often tragic fortunes of Rwanda’s indigenous people. Formerly a peaceful hunter-gatherer tribe, the Twa have encountered hatred and racist intolerance and became victims of the 1994 massacres. Now struggling to overcome a history of prejudice and crippling poverty, they are organising themselves at local levels to address issues of housing, agriculture and education and are becoming increasing active in the United Nations Commission on Human Rights. They are discovering that their greatest strength lies in the fostering of a sense of pride in their langauge and culture.
