Synopsis

An in-depth look at building virtual reality software, wtih the system developed at IBM Research is used to illustrate the concepts. A complete VR system should include both development and runtime support for distributed processing, multiple users sharing and environment, and various I/O hardware. These facilities should be provided within a coherent framework which stresses ease of use and enables iterative application design.
