Matter of Span, A

Synopsis: Shows the manufacture of factory-produced pre-stressed concrete beams. Demonstrates with the aid of diagrams, how each type of unit is used to form a bridge deck. These operations are then shown in the construction of bridges on a variety of sites illustrating different applications: the inverted T-beam for a small bridge in a flood relief scheme and on subway construction at London Airport, and M-beams, U-beams and box beams being erected for bridges on by-passes. The M-beam is also shown during the construction of the multi-storey car park over the railway line at Ealing.
