Play synopsis

This play chronicles Braddon’s four years as a Japanese prisoner-of-war after the brief, but disastrous, Malayan campaign of 1942.

Production history

First published as a memoir in 1952, The Naked Island sold over a million copies by the mid-1970s and is a classic of Australian literature. Braddon re-worked the same material as a play which premiered in 1959.
