- Summary
- NFA Summary - the preparing of pure water at the Guiness waterworks for use by Redbourn steelworks.
NFA synopsis: This item opens in the home of Mr. Rayner, in Rowland Road, foreman of the Guinness waterworks. Mrs. Rayner is seen at the sink drying up, while Mr. Rayner reads the paper in the sitting room. Mrs. Rayner scrapes out the kettle, which leads the film into looking at the provision of water. 14,000,000 gallons of water a week from the River Trent goes to the steelworks at Redbourn. Scenes are shown at the water-softening plant, testing the water in the reservoir, and collecting water samples to be tested in laboratories. There are shots of an underground water conduit to the Redbourn steelworks, and also of the latter in action, with scenes of quenching coke, open-hearth furnaces and the rolling-mill. - Keywords
