- History
- Ingot Pictorial was produced by Technical and Scientific Films and later, Verity Films, for the sponsors, Richard Thomas and Baldwins Group (RTB). It was distributed by Sound-Services, a mobile cinema service, on 16mm to leisure groups and schools. Four editions were produced each year, on a quarterly basis. The purpose of the series, according to Howard Marshall, director of RTB personnel and public relations and frequent commentator for the series, was to instil a ‘sense of pride’ in the company. Issues were shown at the company’s works, during 20-minute lunch-time shows from a mobile van, and at local cinemas to which employees could take their wives and families. In this way, RTB claimed that they showed each issue to 25,000 workers in 30 works scattered from Lancashire to South Wales (Film User no.66 p. 176 April 1952). The series ran for 35 issues, although records only exist for issues 2 to 34. There is evidence of some international distribution through a reference to Ingot Overseas no. 3.
