Summary
NoS Summary - stone sculptures - gnomes and elves - being carved & in situ in a garden.
British Pathe synopsis: "It was close to Wilmslow, Cheshire, that we sought the Pixie man, getting out the hard sandstone for his Gnomes and Elves - " Various shots of quarrying work, stone being blasted, pieces of rock being lifted from the quarry, men stacking the stone. "Contrary to what Nurse used to tell us, Pixies and Gnomes are made - not born", said Mr Alan Brough, "and they begin with a clay model - " Various shots of a sculptor at work. "Carving out the hard stone starts the real Pixie on its way - " C/U of the sculptor chipping away at a piece of stone. C/U of a face taking shape. "Emerging from its age-old tomb under the strokes of the magic chisel - " More footage of the pixie taking shape. "Fit for the Pixie pool - " C/U of the pixie sitting cross legged. The artist holds up his sculpture. The pixie is placed beside a small pool. "Some people say there are no fairies - but the little elves and gnomes by the Pixie garden pools know different - " Shot of another pixie sculpture looking into a pool. By means of a dissolve it turns into a stone frog, then a gnome. Various shots of different stone sculptures in a garden. A little girl drops petals into a bowl held by a gnome statue.
