Summary
NoS Summary - Women fishers hope for a good catch as they stand patiently on the pier at Deal.
NoS synopsis: "The most optimistic pastime in the world - often seen on piers -" High angle shot of large number of people fishing from the pier. "A little bait, a little weight, and a large wait - " M/S of woman putting bait on her line. M/S of woman in sou’wester sitting on bench on pier with fishing rod over the edge - she smiles at the camera. M/S of another woman smiling at the camera as she reels in. M/S of women waiting patiently for a bite. C/U of man in wet weather gear looking out to sea holding fishing rod. Various shots of anglers - mostly women. "The catch of the season - something smaller than a whale." C/U of fish on the line - only small. High angle shot of woman bringing in a fish. "A mile away nice warm homes call, but the Pier Brigade carry on undaunted - "hope springs eternal..." M/S of anglers, Deal promenade seen in background. Anglers are seen more or less in silhouette as the day wears on.
