Summary

COI synopsis: In an ideal world, all medical problems would be preventable. As yet, that hasn’t been achieved; but medicine and its associated technology is now offering the less fortunate amongst us a new freedom and independence - a life of their own. Ten years ago, a premature baby’s chances of survival were low - only 10% lived and more than half of those had brain damage. Today the survival rate is over 70%: a revolution in technology and approach has taken place in our special care wards.
