Summary
COI synopsis: High costs, labour shortage and a hungry world have brought about a revolution down on the farm. This week’s programme looks at new ways to deal with perennial problems. Sugar beet production is a growing British industry, providing over half the country’s sugar. But this valuable crop has an enemy - the sugar beet bolter. It’s sugar beet turned to massive, commercially useless weeds. Now science has declared war on the bolter, with a weapon that uses high voltage electricity to destroy the malignant invader.
