- Summary
- COI synopsis: To satisfy the increasing demand for timber in a world where timber resources are decreasing, scientists in Britain are making a concerted effort to understand more about a little known subject - trees. How, when and why do trees grow? To find answers to these questions, whole areas of Scottish pine forests have been wired up. New instruments have been designed to monitor a tree’s growth all day, all night, in all weathers. And in the depths of the forest, a lonely computerised sentinel marks every change in the life of the forest. At last, we are learning how the cells of trees change, from their tips to their roots. We are learning how they grow.
