Summary

MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: South African Grand Prix. DESCRIPTION: The 3rd race of the World Championship Series is the South African Grand Prix held on the Kyalami Circuit. The race built up to a exciting finish when the leader Riccardo Patrese pulled out with engine failure. Ronnie Petersen comes through and takes the lead from Patrick Depailler in the last mile. SHOTLIST: CU James Hunt talking. MCU Hunt’s teammate, Frenchman Patrick Tambay with helmet on. MCU Hunt puts helmet on. MCU Niki Lauda talks to teammate John Watson. MCU Jackie Stewart talks to Didier Peroni helped into his ‘Ensign N177’. MCU No 3 Patrick Depailler in Elf Tyrell 008. MS No 6 Ronnie Petersen in his JPS NK IV. MCU ditto. MCU No 9 Jochen Mass in ATS 1. MS No 11 Carlos Reutemann in Ferrari T2. MS Jody Scheckter in Wolf-Ford. MS ditto out of pits. MS No 1 Lauda in Brabham Alfa Romeo BT450 out of pits. MS Emerson Fittipaldi in Copersucar F05A. MS same out of pits. MS No 7 Hunt in McLaren M26 and out of pits. MS No 15 Jean-Pierre Jabouille in Renault Elf out of pits. MS crowd. LS start of cars towards camera down straight. MS into Crawthorne Corner - No 5 Mario Andretti in lead. Air shot Andretti approaches Barbecue Bend followed by Scheckter, Lauda & Hunt. MS ditto. MS Andretti in lead past grandstand. MS Andretti still in lead followed by above with Jabouille in 5th and No 35 Riccardo Patrese in Arrow Ford 6th. Air shot Hunt through the Esses pull back to GV track. MS crowd cheering. MS Scheckter overtakes Andretti. Air TS Scheckter followed by Patrese. MS Patrese overtakes Scheckter to take lead, pan into crowd. MS Lauda leaves track after engine blows up. MS crowd. MS Lauda steps from cars. MS cars round corner pan to Scheckter. MS No 12 Villeneuve’s Ferrari at side of track after engine failure. Air shot Patrese’s car smoking. MS Depailler now takes over the lead. Petersen behind Andretti in 3rd place. MS Andretti. Air shot Petersen now second. MS at Esses Petersen sticks nose of Lotus in side of Depailler which made him go wide. MS Petersen takes chequered flag. GV crowd round stage for winner. MS Jackie Stewart uncorks champagne and Petersen shakes it over crowd.
